Madea’s Big Happy Family is an entertaining film that weaves together various real life situations with good old-fashioned humor and comic relief.  This movie is not your traditional Black film.  Perry does a very good job of pushing traditional problems from a African-American perspective.

The lead character played Loretta Devine struggles to keep her family together as she battles a long-term illness.  Her two daughters and son fail to come together until it is too late. The film deals with important issues related to sexual abuse, health, love, hard work, and family unity.

Lil Bow Wow plays an interesting role of a young man struggling to turn his life around after coming out of jail.  His girlfriend wants him to push drugs and his child’s mother is set on driving him crazy.  Bow Wow’s family led by his mom and Madea help him make wiser decisions.

The only major criticism of the movie centers around the traditional stereotype of the angry Black Woman.  The daughters are constantly berating and belittling their two hardworking and loving husbands.  The movie has many adult themes and a must see for men and women.

Review in a Hurry: Tyler Perry reunites most of his recurring characters. Fans of the Madea movies will love that there’s actual narrative development here (including a significant cliffhanger), while those with a casual interest (like me) may find this the best one to start with. For everyone else, the best I can say is that it isn’t  Bad (Joe Jackson bad not Michael Bad) .

Here’s the Deal : If you think it’s hilarious for an Black man dressed up as an old black woman to answer the phone by saying ”Hellurrr?” your soon-to-be-favorite movie of the year just came out. Yes, it’s another slice of gospel comedy with Madea (Perry), and various family members, most  are struggling with marital issues and gender roles.  It all leads to a dramatic revelation of a long-buried family secret, with several of the characters airing their dirty laundry on, where else, “The Maury Povich Show.” I’m not spoils anything at this point to say that all will ends, as usual, in a big church service, at which a choir will sing. Given the way his reliable fanbase eats up everything he does like it’s manna from heaven, this should do well. P.S. Bow Wow was gr8
